Most of the Americans love to drink soda more than any other drink, which is shown in the statistics of purchased products. For example in 2015, some 40.7 gallons (154 liters) of soft drinks were consumed per capita (less than in 2010 – 45.5 gallons).

The facts of some European countries show that the Netherlands is below the average (94,5 per person per year in 2016), Germany consumes an average of 139,6 liters, Denmark comes in second, with the Czech Republic following shortly after, while Greece is at the bottom of the list with only 47,7 liters consumed per person.

Recently there is a lot of information offered about the disturbing effects of this extremely unhealthy addiction, but if that it is not enough for everyone who reads this article, we will be giving you some more, believing that it will open your eyes.

1. Soda and Osteoporosis

Due to the containment of caffeine and phosphoric acid in the soda, the Framingham Osteoporosis Study, showed the significant reduction of BMD in the hips of female subjects that regularly consumed soda, which is much more vulnerable to bone loss when it is compared than men.

The results based on several studies, also showed that the reason behind this phenomenon is the excessive amounts of phosphorus that prevent the absorption of calcium by the body. The studies found that phosphoric acid that cola contains causes the leakage of calcium in the bones, too.

According to another study, the intake of 330 milligrams of caffeine or four cups of coffee can result in losing bones. Because of the fact that caffeine obstructs the absorption of calcium, it can lead to loss of calcium through urine.

In the case of osteoporosis or diseases that prevent the absorption of calcium, such as Crohn’s disease both soda and caffeine should be avoided at all cost. It should be also the case with those people who are older than 50 years old.

2. Obesity

If something contributes to your extra pound, then it is your favorite drink, soda. Soft drinks are on the list of products that causes obesity, as a single can of it provides an extra pound in just a month.

If someone recommends you to switch to diet soda, here is why you should think about it. As diet soda is loaded with artificial sweeteners it may trigger a whole range of both physiological and hormonal problems, why is even more dangerous in making you really fat.

3. Liver Damage

Excessive intake of soda elevates the risk of cirrhosis radically, why it is the worst thing that you can do to your liver.

4. Tooth Decay

The compounds in soda have a negative effect on the tooth enamel, and they can damage it if the consumption of soda is excessive. It happens because of the high acidity of soda, that in worst cases actually leads to even greater damage to your teeth. It is the same with the sugars that have been added to candies.

5. Kidney Stones and Kidney Disease

The huge amount of phosphoric acid in Cola affects the urinary tract. It influences the changes to the extent and causes filling kidneys with stones.

It is assumed that by consuming a 12-ounce of cans, people can elevate the risk of forming kidney stones by up to 15%.
