A 70-Year-Old Grandma Cleaned 52 Beaches In One Year and Showed It Is Never Too Late to Take Care of Our Planet

Even though Earth is the only home we have, sometimes we do not treat it like one. We need to take extra care of it in any way we can.

Not everyone can say that they’ve contributed to keeping this planet as clean and as pure as possible.

However, there are some people that help keep this planet clean, caring for its future, and doing what they can to preserve it.

A citizen from Cornwall, UK, named Pat Smith, observed all of the pollutions that happen around her and she decided to contribute to cleaning it.

She is a 70-year-old grandmother that had seen a documentary about plastic pollution and was really concerned by the consequences it could bring to the Earth. She challenged herself to clean up one beach per week in the year of 2018.

Together with her grandchildren, as well as other people from her hometown that supported her idea and volunteered, they cleaned up 52 beaches of Cornwall in that year.

However, this is not the end of her contribution to this Earth. She’s continuing her duty to clean up the entire world. By launching a campaign named The Final Straw, she’s raising awareness about the plastic straws that are being used throughout the world.

She’s debating that the plastic straws are useless and harmful pieces of plastic that can pollute the world by its single-use and are a large amount in quantity.

Usually, most of the plastic straws end up in landfill sites and oceans, killing oceanic life.

All of the plastic straws that are used will eventually outlive every single person that is living on this planet right now.

Even though the plastic straws are small in comparison to the Earth, they have a big factor in causing global problems that all of us are responsible for.

However, with the inspiration that Pat Smith has given us, we can all help and contribute to making a change to stop the pollutants from overcoming and suffocate our planet.
